Everybody who plants a tree wants to ensure that the tree will be there for years to come.Trees are an expensive part of the landscape a tree that dies within the first few years can hurt your bank account.
1.Planting time
The time when you plant the tree is very crucial to long term success. Spring and early fall are considered the best time of the year to plant trees before the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter. The tree needs moderate temperatures and adequate rain to to aid it in the early stages after being planted. These conditions are found during these times of the year.
2. Pruning
Pruning a tree is a good way to ensure long term success. You should only prune the tree when it is first planted. Getting rid of broken branches from transportation and branches that are to low. You should never prune branches on the top of the tree because this can change the way the tree grows or even stunt the growth of the tree. If you have to prune branches that are in the way of structures such as a house or power lines you have most likely have inproperly placed the tree on the site.That is why site selection is important.
3. Fertilizing and Pest management
Fertilzing should be done when planting the tree. Fertilizing later in the trees life should only be done if the tree begins to take turn for the worst. You should consult with your local gardencenter or extension agent about the type of fertilizer you should use because each species of trees differ in there needs of certain nutrients. Pest management is also going to be a part of your trees long term success. Certain species are more succeptiableto pest then others and each pest has to be dealt with in its own special way. Once again you should consult with local gardencenter or extension agent about the proper way to get rid of these pest. Some of your local gardencenter may even offer services to take care of the pest for a small fee. All you have to do is ask.
These practices should ensure long terms success for your tree along with proper planting methods, proper site selection and proper tree selection.
